Among the many tiaras crafted by Garrard for the British Royal Family, few command attention like Queen Elizabeth II’s Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara. Towering and majestic, it showcases an impressive collection of aquamarines, gifts from the President of Brazil, presented on behalf of the Brazilian people over 15 years. Commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1957, the jewel was later returned to Garrard in 1971 for some significant enhancements, including the addition of a large aquamarine at the front of the tiara.

In 1947, when Queen Elizabeth II was still a princess, she inherited a jewel from her grandmother, Queen Mary. The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara would go on to become an iconic symbol of the new Elizabethan age that began immediately after the death of Elizabeth II’s father, King George VI, on 6th February 1952.

When a client approached one of our sales executives with a special request, a story began to unfold that led to a hunt through the Garrard archives and a private commission to recreate a lost jewel, filled with memories and greatly missed. In the 1980s, the client had purchased a horseshoe ring from Garrard. Crafted in yellow gold and set with emeralds and diamonds, it accompanied many fun times with her children—so much so that the ring came to represent their childhood. Could Garrard possibly remake it, she asked?
